国立昭和記念公園「霧の森」 / Fog Forest Showa Emperor’s National Memorial Park

東京・立川市の昭和天皇のメモリアル・パーク昭和記念公園の一角につくられたランドスケープの作品「霧の森」です。ここでは同じ形の幾何学的な小さな緑が規則正しく配置されています。その間を風や気温に応じてうつろいながら流れ出す霧が濃い時には丘全体を覆い隠し、幻想的で不思議な霧の森になります。霧は円柱状のオブジェとすり鉢状に掘り込まれた霧の池に仕掛けられた特殊な装置から人工的に発生させる仕組みになっていますが本物の霧です。これは霧の彫刻家である中谷芙二子氏とのコラボレーションによって実現したものです。霧は30分毎に発生し、とくにウィークエンドはたくさんの家族連れで賑わっています。

“Fog Forest” is a landscape artwork created at Showa Emperor’s National Memorial Park, memorial park for the Showa Emperor, at Tachikawa-city, Tokyo. Small bushes are geometrically and identically sculpted and distributed regularly. The fog floats between the bushes, accumulates according to the changes of wind and temperature. It covers up the entire hill and raises a mystic and illusionary fog forest. The fog is automatically produced from a special device installed at a column and square funnel-formed lake. The artwork was realized in collaboration with a Japanese fog sculptor, Fujiko Nakaya. The phenomenon arises every 30 minutes. This place is crowded with families especially at weekends.
